For water-based paints, you can clean the brush by rinsing it thoroughly in warm water and then wiping it with a piece of paper or a cloth. Repeat until the water is clear and the brush is clean. It is also a good idea to use a mild soap or washing-up liquid to remove any remaining paint. For oil-based paint, you can clean the brush by using mineral spirits or similar. Start by removing as much paint as possible by wiping the brush on a piece of paper or cloth. Then dip the brush into turpentine and let it soak for a few minutes. Shake the brush gently and repeat until the brush is clean. It is important to remember that turpentine is a toxic liquid, so be sure to wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated area.

Regardless of the type of paint you have used, it is important to avoid letting the brush become dry or stiff. After cleaning, wipe the brush gently with a piece of paper or cloth, then hang it up or lay it flat to dry completely.
