Which type of polishing machine should you choose?
Buying polisher can be confusing and a difficult task. There are many types, many options, many brands and, not least, many different prices to deal with. And the answer is unfortunately not always clear, because the choice of machine depends on several things, such as the user's experience, type of polishing machine and the surface to be polished. There are several types of polishing machines on the market: Dual Action, Triple Action, Rotary and Gear driven polishing machines.

Dual Action Polisher
Dual dual polishing machine makes two different rotations (including dual action). At the same time as the polishing wheel makes a rotation, the wheel also makes a figure-of-eight movement. Which is called an orbital movement, and therefore the DA polishing machine is also called an orbital polishing machine. The polishing machine has its advantages in the orbital movement, because even if the polishing disc hits the same area, it will be from several different directions. It results in an even, beautiful polish with minimal friction and heat build-up and minimizes holograms and shadows after polishing. DA polishing machine is described as the safest choice for polishing. This does not mean that the safe choice is a bad choice because many professional car painters and prep workers primarily use Dual Action polishers in their car polishing setup.

Suitable for everyone, a really good choice for those who want a safe, good all-round machine, where the aim is for efficiency and quality.

Rotary
Rotary polishing machine makes a direct rotation around its own axis with no fluctuation (opposite DA polishing machines). Many will also refer to this type as an eccentric polisher. Rotary polishers generally give a faster result. Rotary removes varnish faster than, for example, DA machines and therefore you will be able to achieve faster varnish correction, because Rotary is the most "efficient" machine. But for the less experienced user, it will be easy to cause damage to the paint due to a more intense work area, which gives more friction and heat generation.

Suitable for the experienced, as it requires desire and time to get to know the machine, as the operator's experience and skill is reflected directly in the result.

Gear driven
Gear Driven polishing machine is characterized by the fact that the polishing machine generates two types: A rotary movement that runs in the clockwise direction, combined with a lateral movement, which means a movement that is displaced away from the center, exactly as we know it from dual action. Gear Driven can be seen as a fusion between Rotary and Orbital polishing machines. A Gear Driven Polisher is a very good choice for those who want the safety of orbital and the power of rotary.

Suitable for everyone, a great choice for those who want the safety of Orbital polishers and the power of Rotary polishers.

Triple Action
Triple Action is an innovative pneumatic technology for polishing, introduced by RUPES. Triple Action is the combination of DA Random Orbital movements and an epicyclic gearing. During a polishing, the operator typically applies a variable pressure/pressure on the workpiece, which can create a varied friction, which can reduce the speed of the motor and thus the effect of polishing. But with Triple Action, the polishing pad performs a specific rotational motion, just like Dual Action, and rotates freely around its own axis. Using this technology, the influence of variable performance (the load applied by the operator) is reduced, thereby providing greater uniformity of polisher performance. If you know more about RUPES polishing machines, you can read our guide to RUPES polishing machines.

Suitable for everyone, a good choice for those who want a powerful pneumatic polisher with stable torque that delivers the same result regardless of the load from the operator.

Choice of fluctuation and polishing wheel size
When you have decided on the type of polisher you want to use, the next question is what size polishing pad should I use and what diameter in orbit/swing should you choose. In short, the larger the swing and disc, the more efficient and the faster the machine can work. It is really good when working on large, even surfaces. But this also means that the quality of the polishing towards edges and corners will be worse, here it would be preferable to use a polishing machine with a small swing, smaller back disc and polishing pad for increased control of the surface.
