While working in noisy environments, it’s important to wear protective hearing equipment to keep your eardrums safe. Eardrums are delicate parts of our inner ears that let us detect the vibrations in the air that cause sounds. Our inner ears are also responsible for our sense of balance. When any part of the ear becomes damaged, we don’t only risk losing our ability to hear but our ability to balance properly as well.

Harmful levels of noise can damage the cells and membranes of our ears resulting in impaired hearing, vertigo, and other health conditions.

In the workplace, there will be requirements for the area to be marked, where there are currently requirements for the use of hearing protection. This must be done with a hearing protection symbol.
