SikaFlex 221 Pu Adhesive And Sealant

About the product

Multi-use adhesive and sealant with good adhesion properties.

Sikaflex-221 is a multi-purpose one-component quality polyurethane adhesive and sealant, Can be used for internal joints and light gluing tasks. Aging resistant. Can be painted over. Hardens with the humidity of the air.

Application
Sikaflex®-221 has good adhesion to many different materials and forms permanently elastic joints with high adhesion strength. Suitable for materials such as metal, metal primers and paints (two-component systems), ceramic materials and plastics.

Is ideal as an indoor joint and light adhesive applications. Seek advice and carry out tests using original materials prone to cracking before using Sikaflex®-221.

This product should only be used by professional, experienced users. Tests must be carried out on the current items and under the current conditions to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

PRODUCT BENEFITS

Adheres to many materials. Aging resistant. Can be painted over. Can be sanded. Does not cause corrosion. Weak odor. ISEGA and NSF approved for contact with food.

Preparation of the surface
The surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil and dust.

The choice of surface treatment depends on the current type of surface and is crucial for a long-lasting result. Suggestions for pre-treatment can be found in the latest version and relevant Sika® Pre-Treatment Chart. These suggestions are based on experience and testing on original surfaces should be carried out to verify suitability.

Application
Sikaflex®-221 can be used between 5 °C and 40 °C, but changes in reactivity and application properties must be taken into account. The optimum temperature for substrate and glue is between 15 °C and 25 °C.

Sikaflex®-221 can be applied with a manual, compressed-air or electric grouting gun, as well as with pump equipment. Advice on choosing and setting up a suitable pump system can be obtained from Sika Technical Service Industry.

Machining and finishing
Smoothing must take place before the joint compound forms a skin. It is recommended to use Sika® Tooling Agent N. Other products should be tested before use to determine product suitability.

Cleaning
Uncured Sikaflex®-221 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin areas are cleaned immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H cleaning wipes or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents!

Paintability
Sikaflex®-221 can be painted over after it has formed a skin. The adhesion of the paint can be improved by pre-treating the surfaces with Sika® Aktivator-100 or Sika® Aktivator-205 in the painting process. If the paint requires a baking process (> 80 °C), the best result is achieved when the joint is fully cured. All paints must be tested by making a preliminary trial under the applicable conditions. The elasticity of paints is usually lower than the grout. This can cause cracks in the paint where the joint is.
