Bsb Basecoat Tone Colors

BSB Basecoat is a versatile basecoat system developed to create stunning two-coat finishes on cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. This product range includes a range of basecoats in different sizes (1L and 2.5L) to meet your specific needs, allowing you to achieve metallic, pearl, solid and special effect finishes.

The BSB basecoat system contains specialist additives and thinners, allowing you to find the most effective solution for your needs. Choose from two different application methods:

BSB STANDARD Process This traditional method offers flexibility and ease of application, ensuring excellent results in all conditions.

BSB HP HIGH PRODUCTIVITY Process This innovative approach eliminates flash-off time between coats, ensuring better coverage with fewer coats and reducing waiting times.

Substrate Preparation
Before applying BSB Basecoat, ensure proper substrate preparation:

For old, non-solvent sensitive coatings, use primer filler from the MACROFAN product line or GREEN-TI FILLER. Remove any solvent sensitive coatings completely.

Allow the primer to dry thoroughly, then sand with

Wet sanding: P600-800 grit / Dry sanding: P400-500 grit

Mask the surface with 00695 SILICONE REMOVER SLOW before applying BSB Basecoat.

Application Instructions

Method: Spray application

Mixing ratios: See technical data sheet for the correct ratios for both Standard and HP processes.

Spray viscosity at 20 °C: 14”-15” DIN 4; HS Cycle: 20-22” DIN 4

Air Tip Size: 1.2-1.5 mm (for colors containing 61098 BSB MAGNUM SILVER, use a 1.5 mm air tip); HVLP: 1.3 mm

Air Pressure: Follow manufacturer’s recommendations

Number of Coats: 2-3

Film Thickness: 20 - 25 µ

Coverage: Approximately 4 - 4.5 m² per liter at 20 µ thickness

Flash-off time before clear coat application: 20 - 30 minutes to 24 hours

Complete Painting Process

Apply a light coat followed by a normal coat, finishing with another normal coat.

For METALLIC and MICA/PEARL colors, apply the last coat slightly further away from the substrate. If misting occurs, reduce the pressure to 1.2 bar and apply a uniform cross coat.

Repair Recommendations

Sand the area with Scotch Brite Extra Fine, then apply filler or filler.

Reduce air pressure to 1.2 bar and extend spray outwards from the repair area.

Remove overspray with a tack cloth and finish with clear coat.

Fatigue of Light Silver Colors
To achieve a smooth transition with light silver and similar colors, mix 50% of 61082 BSB MIX BASE into the ready-to-use BSB color.

Overcoating
Use MACROFAN CLEAR COAT for the final finish (see relevant TDS).

For MA380 MACROFAN AIRTECH UHS CLEAR COAT, activate the base coat with 5% of 00362 HS HARDENER MEDIUM.
